S2L's Top 30 of 2012: #15 - #11

Andrew Rayel makes his first appearance of our list at #15 with his remix of Tenishia's "Where Do We Begin" followed by more bigroom trance with Jorn Van Deynhoven's "Headliner." Estiva & Josie make the #13 spot with the hard-hitting progressive track "Cliche" and S2L favorite Wezz Devall's remix of "Hyperfocus" is at #12. Lastly for this post is the progressive house remix of Coldplay's "Charlie Brown" by Dave Aude.

#15 : Tenishia - Where Do We Begin (Andrew Rayel Remix)

#14 : Jorn Van Deynhoven - Headliner (Original Mix)

#13 : Estiva & Josie - Cliche (Original Mix)

#12 : Mark Otten - Hyperfocus (Wezz Devall Remix)

#11 : Coldplay - Charlie Brown (Dave Aude Remix)

S2L's Top 30 of 2012: #20 - #16

Continuing our list at #20 is the brilliant Dinka with her track "Inseparable" with both the original and club mix. Next is the progressive trance remix by Thomas Heredia of "Reason" at #19 and S2L favorite Shogun's remix of Arty & BT's "Must Be The Love" with its brilliant vocals from Nadia Ali. At #17 is the progressive track "Lego" by Adam Szabo and Willem de Roo and it is followed by the S2L staple track in Orjan Nilsen's "Amsterdam."

#20 : Dinka - Inseparable (Original/Club Mix)

#19 : Chris Schweizer feat. Chris Jones - Reason (Thomas Heredia Remix)

#18 : Arty, Nadia Ali & BT - Must Be The Love (Shogun Remix)

#17 : Adam Szabo & Willem de Roo - Lego (Original Mix)

#16 : Orjan Nilsen - Amsterdam (Original Mix)

S2L's Top 30 of 2012: #25 - #21

Continuing the top 30 tracks of 2012 at #25 is an instrumental trance collaboration between Faruk Sabanci & Mark Sixma, "Starburst." This is followed by "Stadium" and "Rocker Monster," which represents the signature trance sounds of Wezz Devall and Heatbeat respectively. At #22 is the new tune that brings out the best from the duo of Porter Robinson and Mat Zo, "Easy." And finally, Antillas' vocal mix of Roger Shah's "Island," a beautiful vocal trance track, rounds up the list today at #21.

#25 : Faruk Sabanci & Mark Sixma - Starburst (Original Mix)

#24 : Wezz Devall - Stadium (Original Mix)

#23 : Heatbeat - Rocker Monster (Original Mix)

#22 : Porter Robinson & Mat Zo - Easy (Extended Mix)

#21 : Roger Shah feat. Adrina Thorpe - Island (Antillas Vocal Mix)

S2L's Top 30 of 2012: #30 - #26

Since we only have a few weeks left in 2012, Sherman and I have been compiling a list of our favorite songs from the past year. It has definitely been a good year in the EDM scene, and the difficulty in compiling this list proved that. This list isn't a reflection of the most popular or biggest songs of the year, but rather it is an extremely biased (and brilliant) list of the S2L favorites of 2012.

We start off at #30 with the surprisingly progressive house-y production "Summer" from trance stars W&W and Jochen Miller, followed by the epitome of hard-hitting, uplifting trance in Raytheon's "Caldera". At #28 is the super-chill EDU remix of Garrido & Skehan's "Stay", and Audien's new electro track "Sup" right after. And last, but certainly not least, at #26 is Archie's fantastic progressive house (and Brony?) track "Leto".

#30 : W&W & Jochen Miller - Summer (Original Mix)

#29 : Raytheon - Caldera (Original Mix)

#28 : Garrido & Skehan feat Isobel Mai - Stay (EDU Remix)

#27 : Audien - Sup (Original Mix)

#26 : Archie - Leto (Original Mix)

Tritonal vs. Super8 & Tab - Arc (Original Mix)

Tritonal and Super8 & Tab recently released a collaboration called "Arc." A fun, light progressive track with a slight touch of trance, "Arc" brings out the best of these two duos. This song even reminds me of a Mat Zo and Arty production, with its high-energy synths and lively melody. These two groups of producers really deserve a lot more recognition!

November 26, 2012

Porter Robinson & Mat Zo - Easy (Extended Mix)

The end of Trance Around the World was also the birth of Above & Beyond Group Therapy Radio. We're still finding amazing songs that were displayed on TATW #450/ ABGT #1 and Porter Robinson & Mat Zo's "Easy" is one of these songs. This collaboration proved to be amazing as Porter Robinson's amazing synths are coupled with Mat Zo's brilliant intricacies. Check it out!

Above & Beyond feat. Zoe Johnston - Alchemy (Above & Beyond Club Mix)

Two weeks ago, Above & Beyond gave all their trance fans a scare by renaming their weekly radio podcast from Trance Around The World to Above & Beyond Group Therapy Radio. They held TATW 450 live in Bangalore, India to celebrate this huge event, with great live sets from Norin & Rad and Mat Zo. This week, they are releasing a variety of mixes of one of their singles of the Group Therapy album, "Alchemy." The "Alchemy" club mix is just like any other Above & Beyond club mix, adding on a heavy bass line and strong riffs to the original emotive vibes. This track has been played in all their recent DJ sets, but here it is in its entirety! Completing the package are also a extended album mix and a radio edit.

S2L Mix #13

It has been a while since our last S2L mix, but Cody is right back to mixing. Here is S2L Mix #13, which more focused on trance with highlights such as Jaco's "Malaysia" and Andrew Rayel's remix of Fady & Mina's "Kepler 22." Once again, we apologize for the lack of embed player on Mixcrate and we hope it will be developed soon. Anyways, here's the mix:

http://www.mixcrate.com/shanghai2london/s2l-mix-13-229302

Tracklist:
1. Chronicles of A Fallen Love (Original Mix) - The Bloody Beetroots feat. Greta Svabo Bech
2. Wet Dreams (Original Mix) - Maison & Dragen
3. Memories of You (Original Mix) - Husman
4. Normandia (Mike Danis Remix) - Hydro Poison
5. Unka (Original Mix) - Coe
6. Malaysia (Original Mix) - Jaco *Top Track*
7. Keep This Memory (Johan Malmgren Remix) - Audien
8. I Don't Deserve You (Seven Lions Remix) - Paul van Dyk feat. Plumb
9. Starburst (Original Mix) - Faruk Sabanci & Mark Sixma
10. Kepler 22 (Andrew Rayel Aether Remix) - Fady & Mina

BT & Arty feat. Nadia Ali - Must Be The Love (Shogun Remix)

Shogun is back with his take on BT, Arty, and Nadia Ali's "Must Be The Love." This progressive track was already going to be one of the bigger tracks of this year; however, Shogun beautifully turns it into one his classic trance tunes. Hope you like it!

November 18, 2012

Raytheon - Caldera (Original Mix)

Wow. This song. This is real trance. Its ten minutes long, it has dark, pulsing tones, and it has a great build up. Raytheon hit a home run for trance fans in "Caldera." Just listen to it already.

Bobina & Betsie Larkin - No Substitute For You (Original Mix)

Lately I have really been enjoying songs with Betsie Larkin's vocals. A new collaboration between her and Bobina, "No Substitute For You," is a fantastic vocal trance tune. The song isn't too heavy and its a nice throw back to the "older" vocal trance sound. Enjoy!

W&W - Lift Off! [Teaser]

The Dutch duo, W&W, is back and this time they made a nice progressive trance song in "Lift Off!" Although W&W usually create electro-trance productions, they like to deviate quite a bit and its definitely evident in this track. "Lift Off!" has an interesting drop, mixing their usual trance synths with some drums similar, albeit softer, to the drop in Nari & Milani's "Atom." Hopefully "Lift Off!" will be released soon so we can enjoy it in its entirety!

November 9, 2012

The Killers - Runaways (Pierce Fulton Remix)

Pierce Fulton is another up and coming producer in the EDM scene. This week, his much anticipated remix of "Runaways," The Killers' first single off the new album Battle Born, was officially released. The young American beautifully combines the exhilarating vocals of Brandon Flowers with soft sounding synths that come after a smooth progressive house drop. Check it out!

November 2, 2012

Armin van Buuren & Deadmau5 - ID [Preview]

Two of the biggest names in EDM have been working on an "open" collaboration through twitter. Yes, if you haven't heard yet, it's deadmau5 and Armin van Buuren. For the last month, the two producers have been passing zippyshare files of drafts of the track back and forth through the internet and this week it was officially previewed on Armin's A State of Trance radio show. The project was instigated by deadmau5, but you can definitely hear the influence of both producers on this track. This tune really turned out to be a lot different from what I thought it would be and I'm sure the end product will be even more spectacular!

Hard Rock Sofa, Matisse & Sadko, Swanky Tunes - Chemistry (Turn The Flame Higher) (Original Mix)

Wow, Sherman and I have been waiting for this collaboration for a very long time. Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes have come to be a regular pairing but the two Russian groups were joined this time by another Russian group, and another S2L favorite, in Matisse & Sadko. If I'm not mistaken, that means that there were seven different Russians involved in the production of "Chemistry." The song itself is a good, high energy progressive house track, although I must admit I may have expected too much from this long awaited Russian house collaboration. All we need now is for Arty to remix this and we might have the most Russian EDM song in existence.

October 29, 2012

Cosmic Gate Feat. Emma Hewitt - Calm Down (Omnia Remix)

"Calm Down" is a recently released single off Cosmic Gate's album from last year, Wake Your Mind. The original mix is a beautiful vocal trance track featuring the voice of Emma Hewitt, which I love. However, Omnia does an amazing job here turning it into a more hard hitting trance remix with their signature sounds.

October 27, 2012

Matt Bukovski - Blissful Time (Original Mix)

I have heard a few remixes of Matt Bukovski's productions, but other than that he hasn't been a recurring name in EDM. However, his new track "Blissful Time" is a solid progressive trance production. It might be that I have been massively biased towards progressive lately (if you couldn't tell from S2L Mix #12), but either way I really enjoy "Blissful Time" and I'll be sure to pay more attention to Matt Bukovski in the future.

October 24, 2012

Orjan Nilsen - Burana (Original Mix)

This has to be one of my favourite tracks off Armin's Universal Religion Chapter 6 compilation. Orjan Nilsen goes back to his classic trance style with "Burana" and this tune has been played on many different radio podcasts recently. Hope you like it!

October 23, 2012

Andy Moor Feat. Sue Mclaren - Trespass (Antillas & Dankann Club Mix)

Antillas is back from his recent remix of Dankann's "Unika," and this time the two are producing together again. Antillas and Dankann added some much needed edginess to Andy Moor's latest track "Trespass". Sue Mclaren's vocals are great as always but the original mix felt like it needed a little something extra. However, be sure to check out this remix as well as the original mix to see which one you prefer.

October 19, 2012

Seven Lions ft. Fiora - Days to Come // Paul van Dyk ft. Plumb - I Don't Deserve You (Seven Lions Remix)

We at S2L aren't the biggest fans of dubstep. However, there is a huge exception to that statement in Seven Lions. After numerous fantastic releases, Seven Lions is quickly making a name for himself in both the trance and dubstep communities alike. "Days to Come" was just released a few days ago on a new Seven Lions mini-album and is a fantastic track followed by some great vocals from Fiora. However, of these two songs, "I Don't Deserve You" is definitely the better of the two. Seven Lions has managed to perfect the dubstep remix of trance songs with his ability to enhance, not blast away all the intricacies that make us love trance so much. No matter what types of EDM you like, keep an eye on Seven Lions.

Tenishia - Where Do We Begin (Andrew Rayel Remix)

Andrew Rayel is unstoppable. His productions recently have been dominating trance charts and podcasts. This remix of Tenishia's "Where Do We Begin" was the Tune of The Week on this week's A State of Trance episode; his other remix of Bobina's "The Space Track" was the Future Favorite. Now, he is set to give away an amazing mashup of W&W's "Invasion" and Gareth Emery's "Sanctuary" as soon as he hits 20,000 fans on his Facebook page. Go support this young Moldavian producer!

September 29, 2012

Miike Snow - Pretender (Deniz Koyu Remix)

Deniz Koyu is another producer that has been on the rise in 2012. The German-born Turk has already released original productions such as the heavily supported "Bong" and "Follow You". Now, he's back on remix duties as he follows up his take on Zedd's "Spectrum" with the remix of Miike Snow's "Pretender". It will be hard to beat out Dirty South and Thomas Gold's remixes of other Miike Snow songs, but Deniz Koyu still did a good job with his light-sounding chords and signature bass line.

Myon & Shane 54 – International Departures 147

S2L favourite, Myon & Shane 54 has taken time off from touring this summer and focused on their production side of things. The quality of music in their International Departures podcast recently has obviously increased with the addition of their multiple "Summer of Love" mixes. This episode includes such remixes for their own track, "The Great Divide", Markus Schulz's "Love Rain Down", and Aruna's "Save The Day". The Hungarian duo just never seems to disappoint!

Tracklist:
01. Arty, Nadia Ali & BT - Must Be The Love
02. Katy Perry - Wide Awake (Mike Sonar Bootleg)
03. Justin Bieber - As Long As You Love Me (Ferry Corsten Remix)
04. Let The Music Play feat UTRB - Don't Weigh Me Down (Ost & Meyer Remix)
05. Velvetine - The Great Divide (Myon & Shane 54 Summer Of Love Mix)
Back By Demand:
06. Markus Schulz - Love Rain Down (Myon & Shane 54 Summer Of Love Mix)

09. Avicii - Silhouettes (Syn Cole Creamfields Mix)
10. Aruna - Save The Day (Myon & Shane 54 Summer Of Love Mix)
Blast From The Past:
11. BT feat Jes - Every Other Way (Armin Van Buuren Remix)

September 18, 2012

Dankann - Unika (Antillas Rework)

I have no idea what sub genre to list Antillas' rework of "Unika". It is a sublime mixture of progressive house and trance, and maybe if this was the way that the so called 'trouse' genre had been heading it may have had some more success. "Unika" is uplifting, energizing, and ultimately, hypnotizing. Antillas has created yet another fantastic track.

S2L Mix #12

We apologize for continuously switching the location that the mixes are on, but we have been having trouble with amount of uploads allowed amongst several other problems. We have seemingly found the solution with Mixcrate; however, it does not yet have the ability to embed the player. Therefore, until they update we will only be able to post the link for now. On the bright side, it looks like unlimited uploads and free downloads, so we will also try to upload the previous mixes as well that some of you may have missed.

This mix is a lot more laid-back than usual, mostly featuring progressive and progressive trance. It is without a doubt my favorite so far, and it was a devil to pick Top Track for, so be sure to check it out!

http://www.mixcrate.com/shanghai2london/s2l-mix-12-202643

Tracklist:
1. Wonderwork (LTN Remix) - ARS
2. Unity (Original Mix) - Audien
3. Turn Up The Sound (Gabriel & Dresden Remix) - Andain

5. Stay (EDU Remix) - Garrido & Skehan feat. Isobel Mai
6. One Thousand Suns (Soundprank Remix) - Chicane & Ferry Corsten *Top Track*

9. When The Sun (Club Mix) - Alexander Popov
10. Averto (Original Mix) - Naden

September 17, 2012

Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin - Don't You Worry Child (Original Mix)

It is still hard to believe that the Swedish super trio are coming to an end. Swedish House Mafia finally releases their last single, "Don't You Worry Child". It features the vocals of John Martin, who also did the vocals for "Save The World", with both soft piano chords and the distinctive Swedish House Mafia big-room feel chords. Hopefully each of the three of them will continue to produce tracks of this level with their own individual projects!

Fady & Mina - Kepler 22 (Andrew Rayel Aether Remix)

Andrew Rayel is definitely the breakout producer of 2012 for me. Every production he has released so far has not disappointed me, and he just does not stop producing. He already has trance anthems such as, "Aeon of Revenge" and "550 Senta" under his belt. Once again, he delivers with the remix of Fady & Mina's "Kepler 22" this week. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

September 15, 2012

Soundprank - Evol (Original Mix)

Soundprank's remix of "One Thousand Suns" might be the track of the year for me so far. However, other releases such as the remix of Velvetine's "The Great Divide" haven't been nearly as good as the perfection he seemed to achieve with "One Thousand Suns". However, "Evol" is a step in the right direct as well as a great progressive trance track that really fits in with the music that I am currently loving(hint hint for S2L Mix #12).

September 14, 2012

PSY Vs. Wezz Devall - GANGNAM STYLE (Vance Lawrence Bootleg)

S2L favorite Wezz Devall meets everyone's favorite PSY, because why not?

For those who wish to hear the Wezz Devall remix with somewhat more fitting vocals:

Katy Perry - Wide Awake (Mike Sonar Bootleg Remix)

"Wide Awake" is another song that has been seeing a lot of air time lately on all of the main radio shows. The first time I heard this, I had no idea it was a bootleg of a Katy Perry song. Although the original isn't too shabby either, the Mike Sonar bootleg of "Wide Awake" is simply stellar. Relaxing yet uplifting, its everything that you could want out of a progressive trance song. Hopefully, in time, all pop songs can be (or remixed to be) as good as this.

Armin van Buuren feat. Ana Criado - I'll Listen (Original Mix)

While hosting the prominent A State of Trance and also able to create amazing productions, there really is nobody like Armin van Buuren. Another collaboration with Ana Criado, "I'll Listen" is released within Universal Religion Chapter 6 and will act as a follow up to "Suddenly Summer". The vocals of this track again fits in perfectly to the great melody and bass-line, hope you like it!

September 12, 2012

Dinka - Lotus (Johan Vilborg Remix)

Dinka's "Lotus" was remixed by the great new producer Soundprank who had one of the tracks of the year remixing "One Thousand Suns". However, Soundprank was outshone in the remix of "Lotus" by Johan Vilborg and his remix has been featured everywhere, even getting the "Record of the Week" title from Above & Beyond on TATW. The remix of "Lotus" features everything you like in your progressive trance and almost reminds me of the old Arty. "Lotus" is a must listen and hopefully we will see more of Johan Vilborg in the future.

S2L Mix #11

Sorry for the delay! This mix has been ready for a few weeks now but we have been trying to figure out the best place to upload the mixes. We found a good new site that we hope to start using soon, but for now here is Mix #11 on Soundcloud. Enjoy!

Bonus: Some of our friends(from the London half) are also working on a music blog at: http://tenochtitune.blogspot.co.uk. The music is a bit more experimental and covers many more genres including electronic and house but also branching out into rap and other kinds of music. So if you need a break from progressive and trance(which you shouldn't but just in case) be sure to check out Tenochtitune.

Tracklist:
1. Wezz Devall - Stadium (Original Mix)

Tritonal - Ziziki (Estiva Remix)

The remix album for Tritonal's "Piercing the Quiet" was just released last week. There are so many amazing tunes off this album and this is just one of them. Estiva's retake on Tritonal's Ziziki has already been supported by many other producers so be sure to check out the other tracks on the album!

September 4, 2012

Velvetine - The Great Divide (Original Mix)

The joint project of Myon & Shane 54 and vocalist Aruna, Velvetine, makes their long-awaited return to the Anjunabeats label. Their last track was the amazing vocal trance track "Safe (Wherever You Are)", and this time they do not disappoint. "The Great Divide" is "loaded with emotion, cinematic musicality and classy club grooves" as Anjunabeats describes it. Be on the watch out as there will be a remix package consisting of Myon & Shane 54 Summer of Love, Soundprank, and Seven Lions remixes!

August 30, 2012

Dirty South & Alesso feat. Ruben Haze – City of Dreams (Original Mix)

As summer is coming to an end, Dirty South and Alesso team up to produce a beautiful and emotional track, "City of Dreams". It features the euphoric vocals of Ruben Haze, which perfectly complements the guitar strumming. This track has definitely lived up to its expectations before the official release.

August 29, 2012

Dada Life - Feed The Dada (Original Mix)

Dada Life is an awesome electro house duo consisting of Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom from Sweden. Together, they have produced some of the most played tracks this year such as, "Kick Out The Epic Motherf**cker" and "Rolling Stones T-Shirt". After claiming it as the "biggest drop ever" from their four Youtube teasers, Stefan and Olle have finally released their much anticipated hard hitting track, "Feed The Dada". Enjoy!

Burns - Lies (Otto Knows Remix) [Preview]

Now, he is set to release a brand new remix of Burns' "Lies" on September 17th. Continue to be on the watch-out for this young Swede!

Chicane & Ferry Corsten - A Thousand Suns (Soundprank Remix) [Preview]

Although Summer is fading for most of us, there are still those songs that we can enjoy throughout the year that really remind you of the warmer times. Soundprank's remix of "A Thousand Suns" is a great example of this as its relaxing and melodic beat really seems to fit in with the Summer time. Sherman and I have anxiously been waiting for this to be released ever since it premiered on ASOT. Hopefully it will be out before we are all back to work and school!

S2L Mix #10

Sherman and I decided to do something a bit special for a landmark tenth S2L Mix. We thought it would be nice to highlight some of our favorite producers, so the people and groups italicized in the tracklist are names that we are always excited to see. Hopefully you will feel the same if you don't already! Enjoy!

(Also, the audio cut out at the end and I had to fade at the end earlier than I would have liked to fix it. My bad.)

The Egyptian duo, Aly & Fila, teamed up with Balearic master, Roger Shah, to create this beautiful vocal trance track. Released yesterday, off their own label Future Sound of Egypt!

August 3, 2012

Zedd - Spectrum EP

This definitely has to be the most remixed track of the year. Zedd released his 'Spectrum EP' a few days ago off Beatport. It contains a number of remixes, ranging from Armin's trance to the hard hitting electro house of Gregori Klosman and Tristan Garner. Zedd also includes an acoustic version of the song to which he plays the piano to by himself!

July 31, 2012

deadmau5 - There might be coffee

Taking the year off from touring to work in his studio, Joel Zimmerman, also known as deadmau5, has been releasing a ton of music on his Soundcloud. Most of these tracks are still works in progress, and here is just another addition

Snow Patrol - New York (Ferry Corsten Remix)

Here's something new, a remix of a Snow Patrol song. Ferry Corsten's transforms "New York", from the Scottish band's latest album "Fallen Empires", into an awesome dance track. Always interesting hearing producers remixing alternative music.

July 26, 2012

Hard Rock Sofa - Starlight (Original Mix) [Preview]

Hard Rock Sofa immediately follows their huge collaboration with Swanky Tunes, "Here We Go", with a big room progressive track. Once again, the Russian trio shows us just how talented they are. The track will be released on July 30th.

July 23, 2012

Madeon - Finale (Original Mix)

July 18, 2012

Roger Shah feat. Carla Werner - One Love (Andrew Rayel Remix)

Andrew Rayel has really made a name for himself recently. With the recent releases of this remix of Roger Shah's track, "One Love", and his own production, "Aeon of Revenge", I really think the producer from Moldova really has a shot at making the DJMag Top 100 this year.

July 16, 2012

Arty - When I See You [Preview]

Ripped off Sebastian Ingrosso's Refune Radio, another ID track that Arty has been playing for quite a while now in some of his gigs. Even though Arty loves trying out new stuff, good to see him going back to his original roots with his recent tracks.

Garrido & Skehan ft. Isobel Mai - Stay (EDU Progressive Remix)

Even I can admit, sometimes it feels like all progressive songs sound the same. It's a shame because some people shy away from it because of this or because they find it boring. Progressive is what i view as some odd and fantastic hybrid of house and trance and thats why when you get something that really works well it stands out and the EDU Progressive Remix of  "Stay" is an example of this. "Stay" manages to be uplifting, bouncy, and relaxing all at once and it really matches in with the summer mood that many of us are experiencing. Check it out, whether or not you usually enjoy progressive, you should enjoy this one.

Heatbeat - Chow Mein (Original Mix)

We really can never get enough of Heatbeat. Ever since we posted their Rocker Monster/Arganda EP we've just been enjoying more and more of the Argentine duo's productions. "Chow Mein" is another different style of trance as we saw a huge difference in the trance sub-gengres in their last EP and although each production seems to be completely different, they manage to make all of them fantastic. Also check out "Extra Bacon", the other song on this EP which is yet another trance sub-genre that they have managed to seemingly master.

Arty - Together We Are (Original Mix)

Arty has finally revealed the name for this track, which he has been playing in almost every one of his gigs since the beginning of the year. Here's, "Together We Are". It will be released some time in the summer.

S2L Mix #8

Well, we're back! Sherman has been posting a few songs lately but we should start getting into a more normal schedule once again. We've also sorted out all the download issues by switching over to zippyshare for an easy and high quality way for downloading and listening. This mix was actually made a while ago while we were trying to fix the download situation so don't be surprised if there is a another one shortly.  Thanks!

Miike Snow - The Wave (Thomas Gold Remix)

This song was first played last week on Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1. It just recently seems like all the best producers in house music are remixing Swedish indie pop hits by Miike Snow. The German house maestro, Thomas Gold, follows up Dirty South's remix of "Devil's Work" with his own remix of "The Wave". His remix consists of a more uplifting melodic sound with big build ups, long synths, and pounding bass; it adds the progressive style that is missing to the original song like the other remixes. Be on the look out as this song will soon be released off Axtone!

Project 46 feat. Andrew Allen - Reasons (Original Mix)

The up and coming canadian duo Project 46 recently released their first original vocal track. Using soft piano chords to build up to the vocals of Andrew Allen, they bring us a catchy uplifting melody similar to many of the European progressive tracks that are being produced recently. This track has already made #1 on the Beatport charts, there is no doubt that 2012 will be a huge year for Project 46!

The Naked and Famous - Young Blood (Tiƫsto & Hardwell Remix)

I always get pretty hyped up when I see tracks made of the combination of two of my favourite music genres, indie rock and house music. This original song by The Naked and Famous has a MGMT esque to it that is very catchy, but with Tiesto and Hardwell, they add the progressive sounds to the track by using uplifting synths and highlighting the vocals.

Update and an Apology

Hey everyone. I would like to apologize for the lack of posts. Sherman and I have been incredibly busy with trips, internships, homework, and other things that have limited our free time. I will try to post the second part (trance) of the Spring Mix as soon as I can, but posts will be scarce in the upcoming weeks as our classes buckle down with exams and projects. I hope everyone maintains their interest in our blog and we will try to return to regular posts in the summer and into the future. If you are dying for some good music, Myon and Shane 54's International Departures is one of my all-time favorite podcasts hosted by my favorite DJ duo. Also, Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance is always amazing for uplifting/electro trance, Above & Beyond's Trance Around the World is great for anyone interested in different types of trance and progressive music, and Tiesto's Club Life is fantastic for progressive and electro-house songs. I hope that you find your music fix (at least for now) from these quality podcasts, or feel free to visit some of the older S2L mixes. Thanks for all your support, we hope to get back to the music that we love soon!

Ralphie B - Icarus (Original Mix)

This was one of the tracks that really stood out to me when I first listened to Armin's A State of Trance 2012 album. Ralph Barendse, producing under the name Ralphie B, is a name that has been around the trance scene for quite some time now. He has produced some trance classics and this track is just as equally incredible. On a side note, this track has nothing to do with Madeon's "Icarus". Enjoy!

April 12, 2012

Otto Knows vs. Coldplay - Fix Your Million Voices (Zack Edward Mashup)

I discovered Zack Edward a few weeks ago, and I found his mashups to be absolutely amazing, especially this one. This track is a mashup of Coldplay's classic, "Fix You", and Otto Knows' recent huge tune, "Million Voices". The two songs just blend into each other so beautifully, the more I listen to this the more I love it. Anyways, have a listen for yourself with the free download!

April 11, 2012

Porter Robinson - Language (Original Mix)

Porter Robinson's latest track, "Language", first caught my attention in the beginning of the ultra festival on somebody's set (I can't remember who), and was later played throughout by many other DJ's. This track produced by the young American is nothing like the hard hitting electro stuff he has done before, but instead is made up from a blend of happy progressive chords with just a bit of the old electro sounds to keep things entertaining.

April 9, 2012

Nari & Milani vs. Omnia & IRA - Atomic Fusion (BANG BANG Bootleg)

"Atomic Fusion" is a mash-up of two of my current favorite songs, "Atom" and "Fusion" by Nari & Milani and Omnia & IRA respectively. This mash-up is absolutely amazing, and this comes from someone who has never been a fan of mash-ups that aren't merely adding a set of vocals to an original mix. Even more impressively, the main part it takes from "Fusion" is one of the parts that I disliked in the original mix of "Fusion", which had led me to listen to the radio edit more. Sadly, the free download limit has been reached on BANG BANG's Soundcloud, but hopefully there will soon be another way to get the track.

Mord Fustang - Windwaker

First off I would like to apologize for a lack of posts lately. Sherman and I have both been pretty busy with Spring Break trips and school work and whatnot. With everything returning/about to return to normal again, we'll try to get back to our normal schedule posting a few every other day or so. And now to the more important part, the music!
Although he doesn't receive a ton of attention, Mord Fustang's quality productions are occasionally found pretty high up on the Beatport charts and once again, he has created another fantastic electro-house track.  I won't be surprised if "Windwaker" is one of these successful tracks as it instantly reminded me of a Wolfgang Gartner production, which is definitely a sign of success in an electro-house track.

Emma Hewitt - Miss You Paradise (Shogun Remix)

This song was first played on one of Shogun's sets in ASOT 550 as an ID track. Once again, the American born Taiwanese does not disappoint with his remix of Emma Hewitt's, later named, "Miss You Paradise". This is a new song off Emma's new album, "Burn the Sky Down", which is set to be released in a few days so also be on the look out for that.

April 4, 2012

Julian Jordan - Rock Steady (Original Mix)

The first time I heard "Rock Steady" was the first time I had heard of Julian Jordan. I'm sure this was true for many, and I'm also sure nearly every single listener was blown away by the young and unheard of producer's amazing track.  However, the preview actually has received more attention than the song itself, so for those who maybe haven't heard the full version, or for those who just like massive electro house songs, give "Rock Steady" a listen.

Sean Tyas & Horny Sanchez – Rebox (Original Mix)

Sean Tyas and the delightfully named Horny Sanchez have created a monster of a track in "Rebox". As the Spring kicks into full gear and with Summer just around the corner, I sometimes have a difficult time deciding what music to listen to as the normal electro and trance stuff that I enjoy can seem a bit heavy for the warm weather. "Rebox" manages to squeeze in some light and airy synths in-between the massive deadmau5-y bass which makes the track have the best of both worlds and seem very approachable for me during these warmer seasons.

April 2, 2012

Lt Wee – Don’t Let the Beat Stop (Coucheron Remix)

The French electro/nu-disco scene always seems to be incredibly popular amongst the EDM crowd (Justice, Madeon, etc), and there are a ton of good producers out there who just don't get the same praise. I believe that 18-year-old Coucheron fits directly into this description with the only exception being that he's Norwegian. Whenever I see a Coucheron remix, it always finds its way into my iTunes library, as I'm sure it will find a way in yours.

Hard Rock Sofa & Swanky Tunes - Apogee(Original Mix)

Sherman and I(but mostly Sherman) have been awaiting the release of Apogee for quite some time now. He even just posted the preview to it the other day as he couldn't wait until the April release date to post it.  You really can't blame him though, as the familiar collaboration between Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes once again creates a masterpiece of a production. So here it is, the full and now released original mix of "Apogee".

CLMD - Black Eyes & Blue (Original Mix)

CLMD, a Norwegian duo have created an exceptional progressive track with "Black Eyes & Blue". The track features a great piano melody which is accompanied well by the indie-esque vocals. It's not very often that you hear progressive songs that feel like they can be played just about anywhere, and this is one of those rare songs.

S2L Mix #7 Spring 2011 Mix - Part 1: House

Because of UMF, there haven't been as many releases as there usually are. To make up for this, I'm making a two part mix of the many songs that I was listening to last Spring. This part is focused on the house tracks, and the next part will be focused on the trance/progressive tracks. The mixes will now be uploaded to Youtube as a lot of people wanted this as it would be much easier to access. This is also somewhat of an apology as a few technical difficulties have prevented the guest mix from happening. Hopefully, we'll still be able to get a few guests mixes in the future, but for now, enjoy!

Preview - Hard Rock Sofa & Swanky Tunes - Apogee (Original Mix)

Swanky Tunes & Hard Rock Sofa are already very talented as individual groups, and we have witnessed what they can do if they collaborate with tracks like "Smolengrad" and "United" from last year. Now, the two Russian House groups team up again to produce "Apogee", a huge progressive house track which is mainly based on melodic synths and much softer than the electro stuff we have hear from them before. The track is set to be released on April 2 through Spinnin' Records, but first check out the preview posted by Hard Rock Sofa! (It is unfortunately cut off at the drop)

Archie - Leto (Radio Edit)

With the rise of Avicii in the last year or two, the progressive house scene has become one of the biggest in the music industry. Although I am not a big Avicii fan, his popularity has inspired many young producers, such as Archie, to start creating some of their own music. I have actually been listening to Archie for a while and, oddly enough, much of his music is actually My Little Pony themed and frankly, pretty damn good. "Leto" is nothing short of amazing and its these kind of songs that I would be expecting from the old Avicii and other synth-driven progressive house producers.

Alesso - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix

So much things can happen in one year; this time last year, Alesso was still an unknown producer in the world of EDM. After his astonishing remix of Nadia Ali and Alex Kenji's "Pressure", he has been working his way up to the top of the house music scene. Anthems such as "Calling" and "Raise Your Head" have been made and now he debuts his first ever BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. The tracklist of this mix is amazing, giving us the taste of the best of both the past and present in house. Take a listen and enjoy!

Miike Snow - Devil's Work (Dirty South Remix)

Here is a preview of another remix of a Miike Snow song off their second studio album. This time, it's Dirty South's rework of "Devil's Work" and it was chosen as this week's Essential New Tune by Pete Tong on his BBC Radio show last night. The remix heavily relies on the original piano progressions which I already love. The release date for this track is still unknown, however, it is said to be very soon!

S2L Mix #6

Here is the new S2L mix. With the exception of a few high energy songs such as "Odessa" and the Hard Rock Sofa remix to "Analogital", the mix is pretty relaxing. Also, be on the look out as we are expecting a guest mix to be done by a close friend, so keep tuned!

Martin Solveig - The Night Out (Madeon Remix)

The talent Madeon has is remarkable. The young producer is back to amaze us again with his new remix of Martin Solveig's "The Night Out", which was premiered on Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 last week. I'm sure this is going to be another huge track for Madeon!

March 19, 2012

Ashley Wallbridge & Andy Moor feat. Gabriela - World To Turn (Inner Me Mix)

Ashley Wallbridge and Andy Moor are two trance names that I am not quite familiar with. Their collaboration, "World To Turn", however, caught my attention on both Trance Around the World episode 416 and Gareth Emery's ASOT 550 live set from LA. This track is featured on Ashley Wallbridge's recently released artist album, "The Inner Me", and I really think he is going to have a great year in 2012.

March 18, 2012

Ummet Ozcan - Miami Sundown (Original Mix)

It's hard to go wrong with Ummet Ozcan. His productions vary from several different sub genres of trance and they always seem to be near perfect. "Miami Sundown" is exactly as it sounds: a beautiful, relaxing, and uplifting trance song that makes it feel like the warmer seasons are coming. This may seem a bit dramatic, but give it a listen and you'll see what I mean.

Miike Snow - Paddling Out (Wolfgang Gartner Remix)

Wolfgang Gartner presents us with the electro remix of Miike Snow's single, "Paddling Out", off the soon to be released Happy to You album. I love how the American producer is able to maintain the unique vocals of Andrew Wyatt from the original indie pop song.

March 17, 2012

Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso - Calling (R3hab & Swanky Tunes Remix)

Although Sherman loved it, I was the never biggest fan of "Calling". I'm also not a big fan of R3hab as most of his remixes are filled with the same grinding electro beats. However, R3hab and Swanky Tunes (who are some of my favorite producers) manage to change my mind about both "Calling" and R3hab. The remix has some nice dark undertones and a great little breakdown while managing to maintain the fantastic synths from the original. I for one cannot wait until this is released.

Gareth Emery feat. Christina Novelli - Concrete Angel (John O'Callaghan Remix)

To be honest, this song was pretty average the first time I listened to it. However, it got better and better as I listened to it more. John O'Callaghan completely changes the more calm and emotional style of Gareth Emery's original mix into a great uplifting tune.

March 15, 2012

Nash & Pepper - Ushuaia Memories (Mike Foyle Remix)

Prior to listening to this, I had never heard of Nash & Pepper or Mike Foyle, but this remix of Ushuaia Dreams has definitely made me a fan. The track was featured on TATW and its a fantastic trance song that manages to feel both complex and minimal. This may sound confusing, but give it a listen as it has plenty of intricacies but a fairy simple and relaxing flow.

S2L Mix #5

Tracklist:

1. Trio - Arty, Matisse & Sadko(Original Mix)
2. Shamballa - Erick Strong vs. Dart Rayne(Original Mix)
3. Fusion - Omia & Ira(Original Mix)
4. Everything In It's Right Place - Evol Waves(Original Mix)
5. Legions - Orjan Nilsen(Original Mix)
6. Rocker Monster - Heatbeat(Original Mix) *Top Track*
7. Arganda- Heatbeat(Original Mix)
8. ID - Leon Bolier
9. Arctic Globe - Orjan Nilsen(W&W Remix)
10. Starships Over Alice - Arctic Moon(Original Mix Edit)

M-3ox feat. Heidrun – Beating Of My Heart (Matisse & Sadko Remix)

I've been wanting to post this song for a while now but never got around to actually doing it. Matisse & Sadko is an amazing house duo from Russia and they are rapidly rising in the global house music scene. Their collaboration with Arty, "Trio", was released a few days ago and this incredible remix has been playing for quite a while on many different radio shows now. The original track was already an awesome tune itself with the vocals of Heidrun, but the Russian duo adds a big room edge to the song that completely lets the music take control with its uplifting chords and melodies.

March 11, 2012

Swedish House Mafia - Greyhound (Original Mix)

Today, Swedish House Mafia finally released their newest single, "Greyhound". They first played this song in their live set at Madison Square Garden and announced the track name in BBC's Swedish House Mafia Takeover radio show about a month ago. Not the greatest track they've made and to be honest they don't live up to their expectations when having three of the greatest Swedish producers creating this group. However, I hope the SHM fans still enjoy this track!

March 9, 2012

Starkillers & Dmitry KO - 'Light It Up' (Michael Woods Remix) [PREVIEW]

Starkillers & Dmitry KO often collaborate to make amazing tracks such as "Odessa". They're not always perfect though, but Michael Woods made sure that "Light It Up" was a fantastic song with a few tweaks. Michael Woods' edit features progressive synths with some Daft Punk sounding robotic voices and electro inspired drop. Be sure to check out the full version as well.

A State of Trance 550 Moscow - Dash Berlin

This is by far my favourite set from ASOT 550 so far. Dash Berlin has been making truly amazing mashups recently, which he calls "Dashup"s. One track that really stood out to me was "Man on the Skyfire" where he fitted the vocals of "Man on the Run" onto Shogun's "Skyfire". "Skyfire" has been a song that I absolutely love and the one thing it lacks is good vocals; Dash Berlin fixed that. These "Dashup"s were all played on this live mix as well as some of his recent singles such as "Better Half of Me" and "World Falls Apart". And also, be sure to check out the sets of Armin and many other fantastic DJ's for this massive trance event!

Here is the tracklist:
01: Tiesto vs. tyDi ft. Sarah Howells – Acting Maximal Crazy (Dashup) (Intro Mix)
02: Ost & Meyer – Safari
03: Kyau & Albert vs. John Dahlback ft. Erik Hassle - One Last Love (Dashup)
04: Dash Berlin with ATB (Dash Step Edit) vs. Niki and The Dove - DJ Ease My Apollo Road (Dashup)
05: Kernkraft 400 (Chris Schweizer Remix) vs. Nero - Zombie Promises (Dashup)
06: Norin & Rad vs. Recurve vs. Olive & Cosmic Gate - The You Are Not Alone Gift Theme (Dashup)
07: Dash Berlin ft. Jonathan Mendelsohn – World Falls Apart (Club Mix)
08: Dash Berlin ft. Sarah Howells – Go It Alone (Club Mix)
09: Dash Berlin with Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren vs. Shogun – Man On The Skyfire (Dashup)

16: Dash Berlin ft. Emma Hewitt vs. Above & Beyond ft. Richard Bedford - Waiting To Disarm Your Sun & Moon (Dashup) (Outro Mix)

Lange feat. Audrey Gallagher - Our Way Home (Original Mix)

There are so many huge releases in the trance scene recently that I could make multiple posts in one day; I just really haven't had the time to do so. However, here's another great tune for you guys. A few days ago, Lange released a new trance track called "Our Way Home". The British producer is one name in trance that has been around for a very long time and he just keeps coming up with new and awesome stuff. This track features the amazing vocals of Audrey Gallagher, which is flawlessly matched with soaring synths and chords.

Arctic Moon - Starships Over Alice

Polish producer, Arctic Moon, first caught my attention when he remixed Armin's "Coming Home" last year. After looking him up, I found that he has also made many amazing remixes for other trance big names such as Dash Berlin and Aly & Fila. Four of his productions/remixes were included on Armin's 2011 Yearmix. And recently, his name has been popping up again on many radio shows with his new uplifting trance track, "Starships Over Alice".

Producer(s): Heatbeat

I featured Heatbeat's "Roses Never Cry" on S2L Mix #2. That was the first song that I had actually heard from Heatbeat and I instantly fell in love with it. A bit of research showed me that Heatbeat, an Argentine duo, are most definitely not just a one hit wonder. First is their remix of Parker & Hanson's "Afterthought'. Heatbeat take the quiet, uplifting track into an awesome electro-trance tune that has a great break down. Next, are two of their songs that were featured on their recently released EP. First on the EP is "Rocker Monster". If you like the extreme side of electro-trance, "Rocker Monster" will be your absolute new favorite. It also still has great trance synths though and a faster BPM that allows it to be popular amongst you trance fans as well. However, if you find it to be a bit too aggressive, the other song on the EP, "Arganda", is a fantastic uplifting trance song. Perhaps best of all is that all three of these songs are from the last month or so, which means we have plenty more productions to come from the duo.

Dirty South & Thomas Gold ft. Kate Elsworth - Eyes Wide Open (Lenno Remix)

I didn't care much for the original mix of "Eyes Wide Open". It was the typical Dirty South song that we have all heard re-released under a different name over and over again. Lenno manages to keep the progressive build and synths but with a great bit of Nu-Disco/ electro that really gives the song a great positive vibe that is a huge step up from the original. Hopefully we will continue to hear good productions like this out of Lenno.

Marco V - Analogital (Hard Rock Sofa Remix)

I absolutely love Hard Rock Sofa because their collaborations with Swanky Tunes were one of the major contributions to what really got me into listening to EDM music. Despite this, some of their recent releases have disappointed me such as "Quasar" which had a great build up to a rather mediocre drop. However, their remix of Marco V's "Analogital" is a step in the right direction towards their progressive house masterpieces that I had became used to. Also, be on the look out as the aforementioned Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes collaboration as they have a new production coming out that I cannot wait for.

DubVision - All By Myself (Original Mix)

"All By Myself" is a great, new song from DubVision (don't worry, its not dubstep). DubVision manage to provide for a friendly progressive house song with a solid, yet soft build that leads up to a fantastic drop.  Also, be sure to check out the Third Culture Bootleg which mixes "All By Myself" with Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso's "Calling".
